Preserve the table as relationships
Source frame
A square image that includes the title, all headers, units, and footnotes.
Cell relationship
Rows and columns connect each value to its label before translation begins.
Rebuild test
Rebuild the source grid and verify one full row and column before translating cells.
A value is only useful with its labels
Rebuild and verify the grid in the source language before translating any cell.
Capture the table structure
Include the title, every header, the outer edges, and footnote markers in one reference image. For a large table, take overlapping crops that repeat at least one full row and column heading.
Keep the camera square to the page. Perspective distortion makes columns converge and can cause text from neighboring cells to be grouped together.
Extract before translating
Reconstruct a small grid with the same rows and columns, then place source text into cells. Mark merged cells explicitly and keep blank cells blank. Only translate after the structure has been checked against the image.
Never infer a missing value from a pattern. If a cell is unreadable, label it unreadable and retain its source crop. Verify decimal separators, minus signs, percentages, units, and ranges character by character.
If the deliverable must resemble the source, separate extraction from the question of whether image translation can preserve the original layout.
Test the rebuilt table
Read one row horizontally and one column vertically to confirm that headings still apply to the intended values. Check every footnote marker and whether the note applies to a cell, row, column, or entire table.
For financial, scientific, medical, or compliance tables, use specialist review and preserve the original as part of the deliverable. Translation should not weaken the audit trail.
When the grid contains labels, checkboxes, and values to complete, follow the method to translate a form from a photo.
Extract and translate a table image without losing row labels, column headings, units, footnotes, blank cells, or value relationships. Continue with the documents and layout guide collection for adjacent workflows.
