The screenshot rule
Screenshots are clear sources, but privacy and reading order need deliberate review.
Prepare the screen before translation
- Useful cropThe original screenshot, cropped to the useful message or interface area.
- Layout clueScreen layout sets the order of chat bubbles, labels, buttons, and captions.
- Privacy checkRemove account names, codes, and private notices before upload.
Crop private and irrelevant details
Crop account names, avatars, notifications, location details, and unrelated conversations before uploading. Keep enough surrounding text to understand pronouns and references, but remove anything the translation does not need.
For long conversations, use overlapping screenshots. The overlap helps you confirm that no message was skipped and makes the sequence easier to reconstruct.
Check reading order
Chat bubbles may alternate sides while OCR reads top to bottom. Tables, game interfaces, and app cards can be read across columns in an unexpected order. Compare the extracted text with the screen before judging the translation.
Short interface labels are context-sensitive. A single word may mean open, turn on, enable, or launch depending on the control. Keep nearby buttons or headings in the crop when they clarify the action.
If the screenshot contains messages or account details, complete the photo translation privacy checklist before uploading it.
Handle sensitive conversations carefully
Do not upload screenshots containing passwords, recovery codes, financial account numbers, confidential work material, or private health information. Redaction should permanently remove pixels rather than cover them with a movable annotation layer.
Machine translation can miss tone, sarcasm, honorifics, and implied subjects. Use a human translator when the interpretation could affect a relationship, contract, dispute, or safety decision.
Extract and translate screenshot text from messages, apps, websites, and games while protecting private details and checking reading order. Continue with the real-world workflows guide collection for adjacent workflows.
