Are uploaded photos stored after translation?
Guest uploads are processed without account storage. Signed-in users can save a normalized image and result files for up to 30 days.
Choose the lowest-data workflow
- Use guest processing when you do not need a saved account history.
- Crop and flatten a redacted copy before upload, then reopen it to verify the edit.
- Delete a saved result early when the 30-day file history is no longer useful.
Account storage and provider processing differ
For a guest request, the application processes the uploaded image in memory and does not intentionally add it to the account file store. The normalized image and recognized text still pass through the configured OCR and translation providers so they can complete the request.
When a signed-in user chooses the same workflow, the application can save the normalized source image, extracted text, translation, and a JSON result in that user's private file area. The current retention period is up to 30 days, and the user can delete the saved result earlier from the file manager.
The complete privacy policy explains guest processing, signed-in file storage, providers, retention, and deletion.
Storage duration is only one privacy question. Providers and hosting infrastructure may process request data under their own technical and contractual controls. Crop unnecessary details, use a flattened redacted copy, and avoid online processing for identity, health, legal, financial, or confidential work when your rules require an approved local system.
Separate application storage from provider processing
Guest and signed-in workflows differ in account storage, but both require the configured providers to process the data needed for OCR and translation.
| Workflow | Application storage | User control |
|---|---|---|
| Guest translation | No result is intentionally added to an account file history | Keep or discard the returned result on your own device. |
| Signed-in translation | Normalized image and result files can remain in the private file area for up to 30 days | Delete the saved result earlier from My files. |
| OCR and translation providers | Request data is processed to produce the result | Choose a permitted workflow before upload; account deletion controls do not govern external provider systems. |
Retention does not replace permission
A short retention period does not make every upload appropriate. Employer rules, client agreements, confidentiality duties, and privacy law may restrict external OCR or translation processing. Use an approved offline or contracted route when the material includes regulated records, secrets, identity data, or privileged communications.
Retention is only one part of the decision; review whether a private photo is safe to upload before sending it to any provider.
